Leslie K. Bruce, JD is a seasoned professional with a career in advocacy, communications and community relations that spans more than 30 years. She currently serves as Director of Healthcare Leadership and Community Outreach for UC San Diego Extension where she teaches a number of classes in US healthcare and advocacy in the UC San Diego School of Medicine master’s degree programs while managing a portfolio of continuing education courses and programs for healthcare professionals. This portfolio includes the Health Leadership Academy for UC San Diego Health, the San Diego Clinical Laboratory Science Training Consortium, the Health Information Technology program, a Medical Writing certificate program and many others.
Prior to working at UC San Diego Extension, Bruce served as Director of Government and Community Relations for the Health Sciences at UC San Diego and before that led advocacy and community relations and communications efforts at Sharp HealthCare and the American Heart Association. She began her career working for a long-time member of the California Legislature, the Honorable Lucy Killea. A staunch advocate for maximizing access to health care, Bruce served for eight years on the Development Board for Family Health Centers of San Diego, the region’s largest community clinic organization. She also serves on the Advocacy Committee of the Southern California Chapter of the Health Information Management and Systems Society. She is a graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law and Southern Methodist University.
