Gerri Field graduated from U.C. Berkeley with degrees in economics and history. Her career has spanned the legal, teaching and political organizing fields. She became a health care activist 30 years ago when her professional life took her to NYC and Paris, France during which time she experienced a “Tale of Two Cities” in health care systems.
In NYC, she had difficulty finding timely treatment for a respiratory infection despite having a fabulous job and health insurance whereas in France she experienced a health care system where doctors made house calls and nobody went bankrupt from medical bills.
Experiencing the French system of health care changed her life and upon returning to the United States she committed herself to working for health care justice in America. Gerri lives with her husband and fellow health care activist, Richard Fertell, in Walnut Creek, CA.
